Hype versus Reality: Apple Vision Pro Applications in Supply Chain
A Smart Glass or does Spatial Computing changes everything?
The immersive video feature of Apple Vision Pro blew my mind.
I wanted to experience if our industry-leading KoiScan label scanning technology can be embedded in Vision Pro for some use cases in Warehouse Operations or to perform a digital walkthrough of Warehouse Digital Twins.
Here’s my takeaway with the first version.
Consumer Perspective
The concept of meeting family members on a video chat for a celebration, or watching sports, or virtually traveling the world, everything changes with this device.
It’s an amazing piece of technology and the experience it delivers is beyond anything I’ve ever experienced with Digital Media.
We are right there where the event is taking place. Under the ocean next to a shark or next to a tight rope walker in the air, or enjoying the beautiful views in Alaska. If you haven’t experienced it yet, I’d strongly recommend it.
2. Industry PerspectiveIt’s an incredible TV on the eyes and it’s not practical for anything more, as it’s heavy and requires almost continues battery charging. Potentially it can be used to attend a Keynote, or experience CES, or Warehouse Operations / Warehouse Digital Twin remotely.
There are also health considerations around longer-term use of the device including feelings of vertigo. I didn’t experience it during my brief usage, however. (Reference: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213935).
CONCLUSION
Not a huge fan of strapping a TV on the eyes but the tech is just incredible. I didn’t expect it to be this good, and it will have many buyers. But anyone who says they are building supply chain applications for use by operations is selling hype. If you want to perform a walkthrough of a Digital Twin or meet remotely with your operations team, you don’t need an Apple Vision Pro; this can be done using a web interface.
We will continue to monitor the progress how spatial technology based hardwares improve over time, what value they can potentially deliver to supply chain operations, and keep you informed what is Hype versus Reality.
